Gen
eral  Manangement Learnerships

Learnerships
are a very powerful tool for skills development

We offer the following Learnerhips:

NQF Level 4 – Supervisory Development

NQF Level 5 – First Line Management

Gen Man 4 & 5 Learnerships focus on enabling the skills development of Supervisors and First Line managers and aim at providing the learner with the necessary knowledge, skills and proficiencies to succeed as a manger in the working environment. The learner gets practical on-the-job exposure and experience while doing the Learnership.  Learners are required to submit evidence as part of their portfolios gained from their work place.

Each of these Learnerships are aligned with unit standards and the programmes are accredited with the Services SETA.  All material can be customised to fit your specific training needs.

The system used involves Recognition of Prior Learning.

This system takes into consideration the fact that each learners has different levels of experience and different Qualifications.  Learners meet every 6 weeks for contact sessions with the coaches, these coaches assist with the submitting of portfolios.

What steps are involved with the Recognition of Prior Learning?

Step 1

Learners prepare for learnership & RPL Process

Step 2

Learners Compile Evidence using RPL Process

Step 3

Oral Assessments / Contact Session with Coaches

Step 4

Assessments of clusters / portfolios of evidence

Step 5

Feedback to Learners – gaps identified

Step 6

Training

Step 7

Certification

Step 1:           Prepare learners for the learnership and for RPL

Learners will be scheduled to attend a two day workshop / induction with your coach/mentor.  During this workshop learners will be given their management textbooks and portfolio templates and will learn the following during this workshop:

  • About learnerships

  • About the NQF qualifications they are involved with

  • Unit standards and how they are assessed

  • Principles of assessment

  • Recognition of prior learning

  • Portfolio of evidence  - putting them together and using the templates

  • Discussion on each unit standards – clarity

  • Discussion on each question and assignment

Step 2:           Compiling Evidence

Learners will then be left alone for approximately 6 weeks to work on their knowledge questions and assignments in their own time.  The full qualification will be divided into Clusters.   An external coach will give them a time table to stick to.  During each 6 week period, you will attend a two day workshop with the external coach in order to:

  • Check understanding of what needs to be done

  • Check progress and make sure learners are on track

  • Cross referencing answers to evidence summary sheets so that assessors can find the evidence

  • Discuss ways ahead and deadlines

Step 3:           Oral Assessments

Together with the help of coaches, learners will continue to put together their evidence meeting with their coach every 6 weeks.  During this time, coaches will also collect evidence of your oral communication.  Learners may be required to do a presentation or take part in a group discussion.  Coaches will video tape this session so a judge can judge your competence.

Completing the portfolio of evidence should take about 8 months.  During this time learners would have met with their coaches about 4 or 5 times in pre-scheduled sessions.

Step 4:           Assessment

The coach will check each portfolio with the learner and if it is complete it will be handed in.  The coach will ensure all portfolios are given to registered assessors who will assess and give feedback.  Easy fill gaps will be pointed out and learners will be given the opportunity to give in additional evidence.

Step 5:           Feedback

Learners will be given written feedback and where proof is given to the assessor that learners have the knowledge, the necessary credits will be awarded.

If learners where unable to show the assessor their knowledge, scheduled training will have to be attended.  The feedback report will contain information about the training that will need to be attended including the dates.

Step 6:           Training

Learners will be put into group s for this training and be given a schedule with workshop outlines.  The idea behind the training is to assist in areas where learners where not yet competent.

During this training, learners will:

  • Get theoretical input from the facilitator

  • Discuss theory in relation to their own working experience

  • Complete knowledge question to show the facilitator they are developing an understanding (formative assessment)

At the end of the training, learners will be able to:

  • Hand in their formative assessment

  • Complete the necessary assignment questions given by the facilitator

  • Meet with coaches in smaller groups to discuss how they might apply the theory into their own                                   workplace

  • Be given feedback on their assignments by facilitators who will assist in applying this to workplace situations.

Step 7:           Conclusion

Once learners have been found competent at all the unit standards, they will be informed in writing.

An internal moderation of the results will be carried out by us.  The Services SETA will then check through the portfolios to make sure all is correct.

Successful completion of the unit standards will then result in the awarding on a National Certificate in Management.
